Castel Grande E Museo Con Collezioni Archeologiche
ATTENTION: InfoPoint and museum are temporarily closed due to the Covid-19 emergency until 29.03.2020
The museum is located on two floors in the south wing of Castelgrande, the ducal fortress restored by the architect Aurelio Galfetti in the years 1980-91.
In the historical-archaeological section there is a concise presentation of the 6500 years of human presence on the hill, from the first Neolithic village to the 20th century (collection of sixteenth-century coins, evidence of a mint of the 3 primitive cantons) and a much appreciated final movie.
The historical-artistic section includes a core of tempera drawings on paper (c. 1470), which originally embellished the wooden ceiling of a sumptuous fifteenth-century dwelling in the city center, demolished in 1970.
Interesting temporary exhibitions are regularly displayed in the bright "Sala Arsenale".
