Government Museum and Art Gallery
The Government Museum and Art Gallery, Chandigarh, is a leading museum in northern India with collections of Gandhara sculptures, Pahari and Rajasthan miniatures. It owes its existence to the division of India in August 1947. Prior to this division, collections of art, paintings and sculptures were housed in the Central Museum, Lahore, then the capital of Punjab.The museum was opened on May 6, 1968 by Dr. MS Randhava, then chief commissioner of Chandigarh.
