Located on the Pantheon Road in Egmore, the National Art Gallery is made of pink sandstone, reminiscent of the Jaipur-Jain style. Founded in 1907 by T. Numberumal Chetti, the gallery was once known as the Victoria Memorial Hall. Showing paintings of the Mughal era, religious statues and artifacts, there are also crafts of the X-XI centuries - which can be found here. The gallery was divided into four segments - Tanjore Painting Gallery, Decorative Art Gallery, Indian Gallery of Traditional Art and Ravi Varma Painting Gallery (whose paintings are considered national treasures).
