Chester Museum at the Mill
Located at a historic 1860s mill site overlooking a waterfall near the center of town, Chester Museum at The Mill features two floors of award-winning permanent and seasonal changing exhibits.
Located in Chester Center, the museum also serves as the office for the Society and holds much of its collections and archives.
Two exhibits, filling both floors of the museum, tell the story of the life, development and growth of Chester, since it was first home to the Wangunk Indians.
A few years ago, we added Chester’s oldest artifacts – two millstones from the Waterhouse Gristmill on Goose Hill Road – to the front of our building. This was made possible through a grant from the Community Foundation of Middlesex County.
The millstones were cut approximately 285 years ago for a gristmill that operated from about 1740 until 1810.
