Creative master Cusquenan Hilario Mendivilya different in this museum in a sweet and peculiar area of the city.
Together with his wife, Georgina Dueñas, also famous imaginera, they achieve a very peculiar style in their work.
Hilario Mendívil was one of the most important traditional imagers of Peru in the 20th century. His inspirational motives are often religious. He has achieved international fame for his figures of the Christmas mystery, María, José, the three wise men, saints, virgins and harquebusiers, who always have a long neck and a serene countenance. It does not reproduce the colonial models but, in their style, recreates them with a very personal and authentic flavor. When recreating a religious festival, it also recreates the context, placing alongside its holy everyday characters, such as a chichera.
His works are exhibited in his family home on the Plazoleta de San Blas 634, which is currently known as the Hilario Mendívil Museum. His children continue to work and continue the ancestral family tradition.
