he former Dzaoudzi Barracks (a stone's throw from the barge), rehabilitated as a "MuMA" museum (Mayotte Museum), opened its doors in September 2015 on the occasion of the European Heritage Days. In constant evolution, MuMA invites you to discover the island's treasures through exhibitions on emblematic themes, relating to both the natural and cultural environment and the tangible and intangible heritage. Every year, MuMA proposes one or two new prefiguration exhibitions to enrich the collections of this young museum, allowing the public to discover all the richness of Mayotte's history and culture. Since December 20, 2018, MuMA has been given the name "Musée de France" and thus joins the large family of museums whose permanent collections are composed of properties, whose conservation and presentation are in the public interest and organized for the knowledge, education and pleasure of the public (Museum Act of January 4, 2002). In a welcoming and warm setting, you will discover the richness of the lagoon through films and unusual objects, such as the surprising sperm whale skeleton, immaterial practices, such as the shioni (the place of books or Koranic school), as well as many craft skills... You will also learn about the ritual world and Mayotte's perspective through economic and cultural exchanges, past and present. An essential place to immerse yourself in the history of Mayotte, its traditions and the wonders of its natural heritage.
