The museum, located on the ground floor of the institute, contains a rare collection of statues, ritual objects, traditional art objects, thankas (painted, woven and embroidered scrolls) and ancient manuscripts in Sanskrit, Tibetan, Chinese and lepcha. The exhibition is dominated by a majestic silver image of Manjushri - Bodhisattva of knowledge - brought from Tibet.
Among the manuscripts: Prajna Paramita and Astasakhastra, written in Tibetan gold script; manuscript of the 11th century palm leaf "Saratama Prajnyaparamita" by Ratnakara Shanti; and a 12th-century Chinese manuscript of the Srat Prajana Paramita, brought from South Korea.
The casket containing the relics of two great missionaries of Asokan, Madhyama and Kasyapagotra, is one of the museum's valuable treasures. The five sandalwood paintings depicting Padmasambhava, the three main lamas of Sikkim, and the first king, Phuntsok Namgyal, are examples of Sikkim art.
