From the beginning, the gallery has already made an impression to every visitor with its architecture that reflects traditional heritage of Kedah at best, done by a local known as Muhammad bin Lebai. The building was formerly built as a state court in 1912 before it officially became state art gallery and opened to public in 1983.
Being one of the earliest modern government building in Alor Setar, this architectural landmark is home to international level artworks done by the youth and experienced artists in Kedah. Here in this gallery, you can find art displays such as paintings, photographs, musical instruments, handicrafts, calligraphy and also temporary exhibitions at certain times.
