Karandash Collection of Folk and Contemporary Art
Created in 1985, the Karandash gallery now has a collection of more than 2,000 pieces of popular art and the production of contemporary visual artists Dalton Costa and Maria Amélia Vieira. Passionate about art, the couple brought together the popular Brazilian universe, signed by the artists: Nino, Antonio Poteiro, Veio, Jose do Chalé, Resândio, Jose Ferreira, Celestino, Geraldo Dantas, Vitalino, D. Irinéia, Fernando Rodrigues and many others.
Gakeria Karandash provokes a constant dialogue between contemporary art and popular art. In the collection are engravings, drawings, paintings and mainly sculptures of small, medium and large formats. It also performs work with the production of documentary videos of the artists of the collection.
