Art Batiks
The previously predominately Indonesian art of Batiks has become firmly established in Sri Lanka to the extent that it has evolved with the islands traditions and incorporated many aspects of unique Sri Lankan Life. Batiks are freely available in Sri Lanka, but an visionary artist named Shirley Dissanayake and his wife have dedicated their lives to promoting quality and reasonably-priced batiks in the city of Matara and indeed the whole nation. They manage a tourist base in their residence on the suburbs of the city of Matara, and this showroom is open almost everyday, from sunrise to sunset. This provides an opportunity for tourists in the area to observe and purchase these locally designed, hand-made Batik pieces.
