Museo Geominero — MIEM
The museum as it is known today was created in 1937 and its first director was Dr. Rodolfo Méndez-Alzola, who was hired in 1936 as a geologist - paleontologist. A year later he was appointed as head of the Museum and Laboratories of the then Geological Institute of Uruguay, predecessor of the current National Directorate of Mining and Geology of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM-Dinamige).
This museum was specially intended for scholars, producers and merchants.
