Housed in an eclectic building, this museum opened in 1964. Although its exhibits include valuable pieces such as the platform from which National Hero José Martí delivered his first speech in Cuba, the machete used by local hero Pepe Antonio when he fought the British forces during the 1762 invasion, valuable art and furniture pieces, and items that belonged to renowned artists, including Rita Montaner, Ignacio ‘Bola de Nieve’ Villa and Ernesto Lecuona, Museo Histórico de Guanabacoa is best known for exhibiting pieces in relation to the Afro-Cuban culture, tradition and religion, sponsoring Guanabacoa en la Historia and for hosting a number of local cultural events.
