Museo Pedagogico Jose Pedro Varela
The Museo Pedagógico "José Pedro Varela" of the Repúblca Oriental del Uruguay, was founded on the 25th of January, 1889, by don Alberto Gomez Ruano, in the likeness of the Pedagogic Museum of Paris, which had only 10 years of created.
Slowly, by catalog, by redemption, by means of archaeological excavations that the own Gómez Ruano was doing, was increasing the wealth of the Museum, which came to be a model in America.
The primary function of serving the Pedagogic Museum in its first stage was to serve as a laboratory for future teachers who carried out their studies in the Boarding school, Normal young ladies, who occupied the top floor of the building.
On the middle floor, the Museum and the Pedagogical Library to be an instrument in the formation of the magisterium, and a means of disseminating the principles, methods, and materials of the reform.
