The museum in the tower courtyard (built in 1282, expanded in 1614), once the abbot of Reichenau, shows the culture and history of the submarine region. The varied and interesting exhibition includes prehistoric finds, including those from the Neolithic (Turgi-Steckborn and Insel Werd), the Roman period (Eschenz) and the Alemanni (Ermatingen, Steckborn). The main focus is on Steckborn furnace construction and lace making. The museum has a rich collection of Bernina sewing machines, a furnished smithy and Steckborner stove ceramics from the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as a collection of pictures by Steckborn artists.
