Museum of Sacred Art «Monsenor Carlos Geriche Suarez»
The Cathedral Museum was inaugurated on September 22, 1983 by order of the Rector of the Minor Basilica of San Lorenzo, Monsignor Carlos Gerike and the governing board. It houses in its interior pieces of artistic religious characteristics that have been gathered since the founding of the Bishopric in 1605. The exhibited material shows paintings, sculptures, the gallery of Bishops, silverware, and silverwork of the Cathedral; the same that have been cataloged by the scientific method of photographic cards by the National Commission of Sacred Art.
Visiting the Cathedral Museum is knowing the essence of the religious culture of Santa Cruz. The museum is located in the rooms that formerly constituted the sacristy, the warehouse and the meeting room for the canons.
The history of this great museum and its real value define it as a true religious cultural heritage of the department.
