The Andean Sanctuaries Museum opens its doors for public attention on December 5, 1996 through Resolution No. 3966-R-97, as a result of wanting to preserve and show humanity these archaeological remains made in the Project: High Sanctuaries of the Andean South.
This project has been led by Dr. Johan Reinhard and Dr. José Chávez Chávez since 1980 in the mountains of southern Peru, resulting in the discovery of 14 bodies and 4 in Argentina along with all their offerings; As a result of these investigations, within these frozen bodies Juanita is located in the Ampato, being this one of the 10 most important discoveries of the last century.
