The Chichu Art Museum was established in 2004 as a "place to reflect on nature and people." Most of the buildings are buried underground so as not to spoil the beautiful landscape of Setuchi, and the works of Claude Monet, James Turrell and Walter de Maria are permanently installed in the building designed by Ando Tadao.
