National Museum of Anthropology
Museum of Anthropology is one of the most important museums of Mexico, because it contains the largest collection of objects of pre-Columbian period. The museum was opened in 1964 on the territory of almost 8 hectares. This area is located 23 pavilions that surround the inner courtyard, and some open areas. A significant part of the area of the museum is dedicated to the art of the Maya, Aztec, Olmec, but there are also exhibitions of contemporary art in the region. The main exhibition of the museum includes a "sun stone", which is better known as the Mayan calendar. The task of the museum is not only to preserve and promote the culture of Mesoamerican period, but also the development of interest in the culture of other countries, so the museum constantly hosts exhibitions devoted to different peoples of the world.
