New Milford Historical Society & Museum
The New Milford Historical Society & Museum collects, preserves and interprets objects and information of historical merit pertaining to the backgrounds of individuals and their way of life and customs in the greater New Milford area. It serves the residents and visitors to New Milford as a source of reliable information and seeks to stimulate interest in the culture and history of New Milford. It promotes educational, cultural and civic activities of groups, organizations and Town sponsored programs; this participation to be related to the material holdings of the Society.
The Society's goals are to provide education, historical and cultural activities for the public, and to maintain our artifacts and documents in an efficient and professional manner so that the historic past of our town is available for present and future generations. We have a close link with the local schools and provide tours for students and adult groups.
The New Milford Historical Society & Museum Collection is well over 8,000 items, about 3,000 of which are electronically catalogued, and accessible here, online. The Society Collection also includes three, one-room schoolhouses and the 250 year old Knapp House.
