Rewa′s Village
Visit a reproduction of an 18th century Maori fishing village built in the traditional way using native materials. Explanatory noticeboards feature on each building and all plants are labelled with notes describing medical and practical uses. A carved fishing waka also features. An historic overview is provided through a 12-minute video of the Stone Store basin and buildings. Static displays and artefacts describe gardening, fishing and games played over the period 1819 to 1840. There is also a model of a fortified pa.
A quiet, serene location next to the Kemp Mission House and Stone Store House at Kerikeri Basin. A beautiful place to stroll, admire an example of a traditional Maori kainga (village), fantastic for photos and great place to unwind as you walk through the grounds. There is also a small museum onsite with local Maori artefacts and history.
