National Museum of Iceland
The National Museum of Iceland is a scientific and service institution owned by the Icelandic state. It is therefore intended to be the center of national preservation and research on cultural historical monuments in the country. Its role is to expand and disseminate knowledge of the Icelandic nation's cultural heritage from the beginning to the present day and to contribute to the benefit and enjoyment of history and relics of the country and nation as much as possible. The main part of the museum building at Suðurgata hosts the National Exhibition's National Exhibition: A Nation Becoming Culture and Society for 1200 Years. The National Museum also runs the Museum House on Hverfisgata. There is the basic exhibition Sönarhorn - a journey through Icelandic cinema.
