The Suvorov Museum in Altdorf UR / Switzerland, founded in 1986, is a private, internationally connecting joint project of private individuals, from Switzerland, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. The museum is NEUTRAL - a place where everyone has been welcome since 1986. Shared history should unite and not divide.
Museum director Walter Gahler has been using metal detectors to search for lost items from the 1799 fighting since 1979.
A tour leads you through the museum rooms, showing chronologically the events of that time. Beginning with the fall of the Old Confederation in 1798, through the Russian army's march from Italy, via Ticino over several Swiss Alpine passes. Memories and present-day memorials, all the armies involved in this campaign, as well as ground finds from the canton of Glarus.
The hardship of the population at that time will also be shown, as well as an extensive culture of remembrance from the Second World War to today's souvenirs.
The centrepiece will be the monumental painting "Battle of Muotathal" as well as the Suworow diorama, which will depict a scene from Altdorf and the Panixer Pass with uniform dolls.
