Cunda Island, which is one of the favorite tourism centers of Balıkesir's Ayvalık district, is a unique settlement with its traditional stone houses, churches, windmills, cobblestone narrow streets and clean air. Taksiyarhis Church, which remained from the Greeks who lived before the exchange in Cunda, which is the official name of Alibey Island, is open to visitors today as Rahmi Koç Museum.
The building, which was one of the two Taksiyarhis Churches located in the borders of Ayvalık and built by the Greek Orthodox community on the old church foundations in 1873, was left dysfunctional after the exchange and was left to its fate. The church, which has been turned into a museum by Rahmi Koç, provides the scientific and technological memory of mankind for the examination of domestic and foreign visitors, and serves to ensure the transfer of industrial heritage to future generations.
