The Museum of Natural and Anthropological Sciences "Juan Cornelio Moyano"
The Museum of Natural and Anthropological Sciences "Juan Cornelio Moyano" depends on the Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums of the Ministry of Culture (Government of the Province of Mendoza). It was created in 1858 as a "Natural History Museum" by decree of the first constitutional governor of Mendoza, Colonel Juan Cornelio Moyano.
The Museum is a provincial paleontological and archaeological repository (Provincial Heritage Law 6034). It preserves more than 60,000 pieces of historical, heritage and scientific value. It has vertebrate and invertebrate collections, a historical herbarium, a collection of minerals and rocks, and an important paleontological collection with more than 650 types. It also has archaeological, ethnographic, folklore and history collections and a collection of archaeological bone remains from central and northern Mendoza.
