The Society has a large collection of railway material, including former New Zealand Government Railways Department correspondence files, maps, photographs, lists of staff, annual reports, newspaper clippings etc.

The New Zealand Railway and Locomotive Society Inc is a society of railway enthusiasts, based in Wellington. The Society publishes a magazine, the New Zealand Railway Observer and a newsletter Turntable. The Society publishes books on railway subjects.
