The Yelets Museum of Local Lore
The museum was founded in 1901. A student of the Moscow University Guselnikov was considered to be the founder. The original purpose of the museum was to promote primary schooling. During the revolutionary activities in Yelets, the museum was destroyed and reopened as a museum of visual aids in 1918. The most valuable (unique) collections are: "Rare Book"; "Ancient weapons"; "Numismatic collection"; "Lace Collection"; "Archeology"; "Painting".
